Biography

Mike Cotton is a Canadian drummer from Hamilton, Ontario, who is quickly gaining a reputation as being one of the countries up and coming musicians. In addition to being an active session player in the Greater Toronto Area, Mike has also performed with some of the top musicians and bands of Canada and the U.S.A, such as Moxy, Houston Macpherson Deathmarch, Aetherborn, Stu Heydon, Mike Branton, Brad James, The Bluesers, Prakash John (Alice Cooper), Jordan John, Dee Cernile (Sven Gali), John Dunsworth AKA Jim Lahey (Trailer Park Boys) Cale Hawkins, Gordie Lewis (Teenage Head),  Steve Parton and the Relics, Rothwell, Ryan and Kyle Perry (Homemade Jamz Blues Band), and Micah Kesselring, just to name a few. He has also appeared on CHCH news, performing live with the Hamilton Blues Society.


Despite being only 24 years old, Mike has over 15 years of drum experience under his belt, and has already had the opportunity to tour in various parts of Canada and the United States as a support act for many international touring bands, such as Burton Cummings, Opeth, Behemoth, Coheed and Cambria, Aaron Pritchett, Chad Brownlee, Turisas, Kataklysm,  He has also made special appearances at The Memphis International Blues Challenge, Arkansas Heritage Music Festival, Sturgis North Festival in Merritt British Columbia, Toronto Beaches Jazz Festival, Mt Tremblant Blues Festival, Burlington Sound of Music Festival and many more. Mike is also a 1st place winner of the CBC Galaxie Rising Stars Challenge, with the band The Bluesers and was a nominee for "Emerging Artist" at the Hamilton Arts Awards in 2014.


Originally a self taught musician, who learned by trying to imitate what his heroes played on records by artists such as Metallica, Led Zeppelin, Ozzy Osbourne, Whitesnake, and Iron Maiden. In his teens, he began to diversify his tastes in music by playing blues, country, and jazz, and it was then when he began studying with renowned drummer Roger Banks (Alanis Morissette, Billy Sheehan, Tony Levin, etc) to really refine his craft. Aside from being a hard working student of the drums, Mike also a drum instructor at Avalon Music Academy and Ontario Conservatory of Music, where he currently teaches over 40 students per week.
